Taylor Hamilton is an artist who created this …and while he doesn’t give step by steps, you may find out enough from his blog to be able to put it together… I especially like how he used wheels as bookends!

Honey and Fitz brought us a great idea from a new store in Raleigh called Furbish Studio… we love this DIY rope shelf idea… simply drill holes, measure equal distances between shelves and knot the rope just below the hole! Love this!

Designer Amy Hunting came up with Blockshelf, this eco friendly design created from wood scraps and rope… This seems like it would be an easier DIY than the last rope project to me, because it would be easier to create an equal distance between shelves with the static wood blocks. Again, stack all the blocks between shelves until you have the arrangement that works, then remove and drill holes through all the blocks. (Be sure to keep track of which pile of blocks goes where if they are different widths. String through rope, then tie a Fisherman knot below the bottom board.

I found these wine bottle shelves on Pinterest, and fell in LOVE with them, mostly because of the color of the bottle, but try as I might, found no instructions for them! Luckily, I happened across another site, Zero Waste Designs  had created a similar shelving system called Ten Green Modular Shelving with all the instructions. So, this first pic is my inspiration, the second one is their creation!

On the Banks of Squaw Creek took the Ikea spice racks idea a step farther, and this is such a space saver! She took a second hand dresser, and attached the bookshelves (formerly the spice racks!) to the sides of the dresser, then painted the whole dresser to match. Find out how she made this children’s storage dresser!

Finally, Home Stories A to Z brings us this great idea of making a rain gutter bookshelf out of inexpensive plastic gutter material from the home improvement store. If you have a kids room that just doesn’t have any more floor space, this is a great idea! And wow! So cute over the beadboard (wallpaper!)!

Is there any site where I can get instructions such as what materials are used for the book case that is listed first. “READ” on the wall to store books. Thank you.

  4. Love the wine bottle shelving! That’s a cool project. Have you ever considered original wooden wine crate shelving? It’s old-world and Chateau-Chic. Feel free to visit Winepine to take a look at the different options available.
